ABOUT BEN…
Tell us about your first race.
My first race was a criterium in Virginia Beach when I was fourteen. I got broadsided by a cargo van while I was warming up and was thrown ten feet off my bike, which was mangled in the wreck. I was only a little banged up, so I slammed the seat down on my dad’s bike and finished third to last in the 18 and under category.
What makes you most excited about riding for the Trek-LIVESTRONG team?
The energy of the team excites me. We’ll be traveling the world with a group of young guys who all have the same passion. Also, I am excited about our sponsors and partners, especially LIVESTRONG. It is a great cause to represent. What an incredible honor to have these people willing to invest in our success.
What is your favorite place to ride?
The Blue Ridge Parkway, 75 degrees, with a tailwind.
What accomplishment or career achievement are you most proud of?
Balancing the enormous demands of cycling with the rest of life is my greatest career achievement/goal. I try to keep things in perspective. However, each result that I’ve earned or helped a teammate achieve is special for its own reasons.
